J. Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major Op. 77
D. Amram Concerto for Violin & Cello
Soloists: Maria Schleuning (Violin) & Jolyon Pegis (Cello)
After two highly successful performances here in Laredo with one of the great violin / cello duos in the country over the last 10 years, the iconic American composer David Amram offered to write a concerto for Maria Schleuning & Jolyon Pegis. Described as one of the “most versatile and skilled musicians America has ever produced” David Amram has collaborated with such icons as Dizzy Gillespie as well as writing the film score for the original “Manchurian Candidate” in 1962, Amram has composed in styles from jazz to folk and now, with the support of the Laredo Philharmonic in this commissioning project a new concerto. We pair this with one of the iconic orchestral standards, Brahms 2nd Symphony which also musically tells the story of a composer “coming of age” with its’ lush sonorities, magical melodies and inspired innovations.
